    • About Us
    Lassen Antelope Volcanic Academy (LAVA) is a school of high achieving fifth to eighth grade students who have a strong desire to succeed. LAVA values character education and we work with students to help them become compassionate, inclusive, empathetic, and responsible lifelong learners.  
     
    We are proud to offer flexible learning options to suit our students needs. Our Hybrid Independent Study Program allows for students to be on campus from three to five days a week. Our typical school day starts at 8:00 am and ends at 12:20 pm. In the afternoon, students are welcome to stay until 2:40 and take part in our optional elective programs that take place Monday through Thursday. We also offer a full time Independent Study Program for students and families who are looking for the flexibility of working from home via an online learning platform.
     
    Here at LAVA our dedicated educators and staff hope to instill a love for the outdoors and a deep understanding of the natural world. Our charter school has a unique relationship with Lassen Volcanic National Park and this allows us to head up the mountain for some hands on fieldwork, to meet with park rangers and scientists, and to explore the wonders of the outdoors. During a typical year our school has over 20 trips to Lassen National Park

    Considerations before enrolling:
     
    • LAVA is a small charter school and we keep classes small with a limit of 27 students per grade level.
    • We do not offer transportation to or from school. (We do have transportation to and from field trips.)
    • We do provide breakfast and lunch.
    • To be eligible for our program students must complete 80% of all work assigned or they will be exited and reffered to their district of residance. 
    • We expect all students to learn at high levels and to work hard in all subjects.

    Currently we have openings in 5th and 6th grade, but they are filling up fast!! Our open enrollment period runs from the beginning of March to the end of April. Please contact the school for more information.
